Welcome to Mauritius
Mauritius is an island nation off the coast of the African continent in the southwest Indian Ocean, about 900 kilometres (560 mi) east of Madagascar.
Known as the last paradise on Earth, Mauritius boasts a rich and attractive flora and fauna, and has a crystal clear turquoise lagoon, white sandy beaches and a tropical climate that draw thousands of tourists each year.
The economy of Mauritius is mainly dependent on sugarcane plantations, tourism, textiles, and IT services. Mauritius, Libya, and Seychelles are the only three African nations with a "high" Human Development Index rating.
